The Ferris link to Lady Jane Grey

Lady Jane Grey

From “Ferris Ancestry” by Sarah Louise Ferris Austin:

“Angus Ferriss, son of Warren and Ruth (Taber) Ferriss, of Glens Falls, N.Y., married Sarah Gray, daughter of Jabesh and Ruth (Norton) Gray. Sarah was born Jan. 28, 1785: according to family tradition she was three years older than her husband”.

Through Sarah Gray, the Ferris family is said to be linked to the line of Lady Jane Grey, the “Nine Days Queen”. To my knowledge, the exact link in the Ferris family tree hasn’t been traced and documented, but the ancestry has been spoken of and recorded throughout the generations.

Below: A 1944 letter from Walter Mclausland to a Miss Boring providing an excerpt from a letter/diary written by Sarah Lovejoy (Warren Angus Ferris’ half-sister) in which Sarah discusses meeting the Honorable Stephen Gray of Washington and having a conversation about their shared Gray ancestors. This is likely from her diary and is dated August 29, 1835.

Below: A 1958 summary of research that Walter and Imogene (wife) collected about the Grey (Gray) family history. This document is located in the Ferris family papers.

Below: More recent ( 1950’s) notes written about the Gray (Grey) family by a Ferris family member based on memory of stories shared.
